Panama. Hotel occupancy is 100% in Isla Colón, in the province of Bocas del Toro, where this Wednesday, October 12, the International Sea, Agroecological and Tourism Fair is inaugurated, in its fifty-eighth version.

“They have called from different parts of the country to reserve rooms, but there are currently no spaces on Isla Colón, so those interested in enjoying the fair have found it necessary to request accommodation on the neighboring islands: Carenero and Bastimento. ”, declared the official.

Yarai Moreno, a native of the Chiriquí Grade district, was chosen queen of the fair and as vice queen Yasuany Walcott and Esperanza Vásquez, from the districts of Almirante and Bocas del Toro respectively. They will participate in all the activities that will take place in the "El Istmito or La Cabaña" sector, where the closest beach to the city of the province of approximately 2 km is located.

This version of the fair corresponds to that of 2020, which was suspended due to the pandemic and this year it was decided to move the event to October in high season, and visitors are already being received from the capital, Europe, the United States and Costa Rica.

The activities will begin with fireworks, artistic-cultural presentations, discos, a tour of Queen Yarai Moreno and her court through the different pavilions and, in addition, the delivery of the flag to the standard-bearer of the fair, the general administrator of the ATP, Ivan Eskilsen.

On Thursday, October 13, starting at 9:00 a.m., the volleyball tournaments (men's and women's) and cultural presentations will be held, which will last until late at night.

The program also includes, for Friday, October 14, boxing cards, a jetski show, a kayak competition, a rowing race, games and children's songs.

On Saturday, October 15, the fishing tournament will be held, in which men and women can participate, a bow championship, a pet exhibition, a rooster challenge, and comparsa parades. And on Sunday, October 16, there will be stick competitions, a domino tournament, the finals of ropes, soccer and volleyball, a boat race and from 3:00 p.m. to 3:40 p.m. The draw for the National Charity Lottery (LNB) will be held.

During the five days of the fair, visitors will be able to enjoy the exquisite gastronomy of the region such as: coconut rice, fish in scobich, among other seafood-based dishes.

This important fair, whose main sponsor is the ATP, was held for the first time in 1962 as a festival to celebrate fishermen and boatmen, but over time it has become an event that attracts thousands of national and international tourists. international to the archipelago of Bocas del Toro; It is also an engine for the region's economy.

 Isla Colón is one of the tourist areas of the country most preferred by tourists coming mostly from the European continent and is one of the main tourist destinations in the Caribbean. The ATP, through the Tourism Cabinet, contemplates important projects in the order of $200 million for Bocas del Toro, in order to improve the tourist experience.
