“Because of many virtual and hybrid meetings, something that people cannot stop doing is meeting, and we are a convention center which was made for people to meet,” Del Valle said.

By 2023, Del Valle said that the goal is to receive more than 100 events and more than 150,000 visitors, "the building is having a very good response, we have reservations until 2026."

Major events for 2023 include the World Robotics Olympics and the Our Oceans Conference.

The Panama Convention Center has a capacity of up to 23,906 people, exhibition space of more than 15,000 square meters.

It also has 1,715 parking spaces and a technical building for the production of cold and emergency power. In its entirety, the main building has 62,000 m2 of construction and more than 33,000 m2 of leasable areas.

With just one year of operations, the Panama Convention Center doubled the estimates of visitors and scheduled events. "We had a projected goal of 6 events and 48,150 visitors. We are going to close with a forecast of 60 events and just over 100,000 visitors," said del Valle.

Del Valle added that the goal for 2023 is more ambitious. The convention center already has confirmed events such as Expocomer, Expo Máquina, The World Robotics Olympics, the Tobacco Congress and Our Oceans.

According to authorities, this confirms Panama's position for meeting tourism. In large part, the destination is attractive due to its geographical location, air connectivity and hotel rooms. Holding events in Panama represents an important economic injection to the country.

"It represents that people have to invest in air transportation, land transportation, lodging, food, entertainment, souvenirs, tourist tours. And on the other hand, for Panamanian companies this means a great source of employment because at the same time companies are needed assembly, registration, decoration", Rodolfo Del Valle, General Director of the Panama Convention Center.

The Minister of Tourism, Iván Eskildsen, explained that they recently visited the IVTM America fair, in Mexico City, where they were able to talk with buyers, who are the organizers of international events and are constantly looking for places to hold congresses and conferences.
