“Copa’s
contribution is encompassed in two aspects: one has to do with the offer of
quite aggressive promotional rates from different destinations that are key for
the country and for the different initiatives that we are launching (…) and on
the other hand, the market is there, with our own resources, “the senior director
of Marketing, External Communications and the Frequent Flyer Program of Copa Airlines,
Marco Ocando, told Efe.
Copa Airlines,
together with the Tourism Promotion Fund (Promtur Panama), presented a series
of initiatives, which include special incentives and discounted rates on air
tickets.
These are
“initiatives that are being carried out or will do so soon and seek to
reactivate the tourism industry in Panama,” the director of Promtur Panama,
Fernando Fondevila, told EFE.
Among them is
the “Panama Stopover” program, which offers an incentive so that passengers who
travel annually through the Tocumen Airport, with any Copa Airlines flight, can
include in their itinerary a stay of up to 6 days and 7 nights, without
additional cost in airfare.
“This program
had been launched before the pandemic and had been very successful in the short
term. But for obvious reasons we had to stop it. Although today we come with an
improved program,” said Fondevila.
Another one is
“Irresistible Panama”, which is based on airfare at reduced prices to travel to
Panama from more than 30 destinations. Special fares average a 35% discount on
ticket prices.
Together with
the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP), the Ministry of the Presidency, the Ministry
of Health (Minsa) and the Government Innovation Authority (AIG), the Panamanian
airline also promotes the tourist vaccination program “Vacutur Panama” , which
will offer tourists over the age of 30 the option to get vaccinated against the
covid-19 AstraZeneca.
“I believe
that Panama is the only country that is actively promoting that they come to be
vaccinated. There are other countries that allow you to be vaccinated, but not
actively promote it. This is something in which Panama is being novel,” added
Ocando.
